The League tracks hundreds of bills each legislative session with potential impacts to cities but focuses its lobbying on a much smaller amount of legislation with the greatest potential impact. Below is a list of major bills, as of Aug. 26, with a brief description of how the bill will affect cities. The League’s letters and sample letters are available at www.cacities.org/billsearch. 2009 CCLI Class Graduates
Celebrating Five Years of Exceptional Leaders

Mike Madrid, League director of public affairs, moderates a session with CCLI alumni and now Assembly Members Anthony Portantino and Curt Hagman about their experiences transitioning from positions as city elected officials to the Legislature. More than 20 city officials gathered in Sacramento late last week for the conclusion of this year’s California Civic Leadership Institute (CCLI) for a two-day discussion on political reform and the political climate in the state’s capital. The Sacramento event on Aug. 20-21 followed sessions in July where the class of 22 was divided into two groups for meetings at Southern California Edison’s Big Creek Hydroelectric facility focused on substantive statewide issues such as water, transportation and energy issues.

28         The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009: Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant and State Energy Programs Informational Workshop –

1 – 4 p.m. California Energy Commission staff will conduct an informational workshop to discuss the status of proposed funding areas for the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program and State Energy Program (SEP). Staff will seek public and stakeholder comment on the proposed guidelines for both programs. Commissioners may attend and participate in this public workshop. The workshop will be held:
